Most of the top rated lifestyle blogs online are run by people with no computer background.
Blogging does not require over the top computer skills. If you can use Facebook, Twitter, YouTube etc. you can blog.In this post, I will guide you through all the basic steps of starting a lifestyle blog.
Pin down your niche
While it may seem like an attractive idea to create a general lifestyle blog, where you can publish anything under the sun, but in the longer, if you can decide upon a niche, you will gain much more benefit from this hobby of yours. With niche blogs, you will be able to attract like-minded people. You would be able to create a community out of them and finally turn your blog into a business, by consulting like-minded people in improving their lives. So here are a few niches, that you can target, depending on your passion and interest, you can choose one, or at best two:-
- beauty, makeup
- family life
- personal tech
Decide upon a blog name
Blog name will give your blog its identity. There are three common ways of naming a blog:-
- A blog name with keywords in it
- A blog name that is brandable
- A blog name that has your name in it
For a lifestyle blog, I would recommend you go with option number 2 or 3. This is because you want to make your blog easy to remember. If you are not too shy, you can simply start a blog under your own name, like, RobertWhite.com. It sounds professional, people will take you seriously, and you will create a personal brand. Don’t forget to add a detailed bio while you are at it.
Here are some of the ways to come with brandable blog names:-
- do word play, lifestyle.com could be written as lyfstyle.com
- pick a wordoid, go to wordoid.com and see if you like a computer generated name
The rule of thumb here is to have a blog name that is short, easily remember-able and pronounceable.
Choose a platform
- Casual bloggers should go with Tumblr or WordPress.com
- Professional bloggers should, without a second thought, choose self-hosted WordPress
Get a theme
Don’t think too much, go to themeforest.net and pick an elegant theme for less than $50.
Place that keyboard in front of you and start blogging. I am already assuming that you know how to write content for blogs, if you don’t, I will cover that in another post.No Comments on How To Start A Lifestyle Blog
